Methodology & source
How this is measured. Definition
Probability of a child born in a specified year dying before reaching the age of five, expressed per 1,000 live births.
Calculation
Joint estimate from UN Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (IGME) — WHO, UNICEF, World Bank, UN Population Division. Uses a Bayesian B-spline model fit to all available country data.
Primary source
Caveats
Country estimates can differ from national official figures because the IGME model harmonises across multiple data sources.
Cross the bridge
Behind the numbers, the country. Numbers tell you the trajectory. Tourism shows you the people, the parks, the streets — the lives the data is measuring.
