About

The continent, connected.

Cusp Africa is a single home for two halves of the same story — the places that make Africa, and the data that measures it.

Why we built this

Africa is 54 countries, more than 2,000 languages, and the fastest-growing youth population on earth — but the open information about it lives in a hundred different places. PDFs from Geneva. Spreadsheets behind logins. Marketing pages for travellers that never quite tell the truth.

Cusp Africa pulls the trustworthy bits into one place. Tourism is the warm side: heritage, wildlife, beaches, cities — what the continent looks like up close. The Data Hub is the cold side: the World Bank, WHO, UNICEF figures, side-by-side, with provenance you can cite.

We're building this for Africans living here, Africans leaving for elsewhere, and the diaspora that keeps coming back. If you're using us for research, journalism, or planning a trip — that's the point.

What we believe
  • Data is a story, not a spreadsheet. Every indicator on the site links back to its source so the provenance is honest. We don't average the awkward bits away.
  • Tourism is more than marketing. Destinations get context — heritage, environment, seasonality — not just photo galleries.
  • Open by default. The code is public, the data is downloadable in CSV, JSON, and Excel, and citations are one click away.
  • African first. Page names, country lists, and editorial choices reflect how Africans use this — not a foreign tourist office.
